Using stoneware and earthenware clay juxtaposed with hand-forged and fabricated steel, my sculptures and vessels reflect contemporary form while evoking a primitive feeling.  The combination of the steel and clay work beautifully together.  The solid mass and rich, warm tones of the clay compliment the dark, hammered surface of the steel. I appreciate working with two such divergent materials: the thoughtful, slow and quiet process of handbuilding the clay balances and contrast with the physical, hard and loud process of forging the stell.

I work in a series, creating seveal pieces at a time. This allows me to fully explore various ideas.

The clay and steel vessels I create range in size from three to four inches to over five feet. The vessel form and the idea of containment intrigue me and offer an ideal opportunity to explore form.  The clay containers may be small and intimate bowls or large, two to three foot tall disk or shield shapes.

My work is intentionally ambiguous: the less I define and explain, the more intriguing and evocative the work becomes.  I want my work to possess the quality of the enigmatic - mysterious, peculiar and oddly familiar.  I like to offer the viewer a suggestion, not an answer.
